Hello,
I was recently told I have a lose wheel bearing, and it is very important for it to be fixed asap. I was quoted ~$160 for it, $100 for labor and $60 for parts. Is this reasonable? And is there any way to check myself if it is lose? The mechanics had also said I needed a alignment, but changed their minds when I informed them I had one 2 months ago when they recommended it. They also told me my car had to have a %26quot;high mileage%26quot; oil, and the oil change was $45 which seemed high. Because my car has odd sized tires, I just spent $160 dollars on a new tire (including labor) today and last december. Because of this I want want to know how dangerous/real this new wheel bearing problem might be, to be sure I'm not wasting money I don't have. Thanks!Lose Wheel Bearing Question?
Jack up the tire that has a bad wheel bearing. When the wheel is off of the ground, wiggle it back and forth to see if there is any looseness. If there is looseness, then your wheel bearing is probably bad. That price is pretty accurate too.Lose Wheel Bearing Question?
Without knowing what kind of car it is I can't really guess on the price. You sound a little skeptical of your mechanic, maybe you should look around and get a second opinion. I couldn't tell you the difference between high mileage oil and low mileage oil but I can tell you that oil costs alot more than it used to. It has tripled in five years. But I'm sure your car does not need high mileage oil. Oil's job is to get dirty. It just gets dirty quicker when your car is older. change your oil sooner.Lose Wheel Bearing Question?
well, depending on where your mechainic is but it sounds like there trying to upsell you.. first if you had a lose wheel bearing you would feel a vibration, and you would hear a nose coming from the wheel area.. but it mostly sounds like your mechanic is trying to upsell your car,.. And im very surpised that its only 160.00 to do a wheel bearing.Lose Wheel Bearing Question?
$160 for a new bearing installed is a gift do it now.
high mileage oil? this is a lie, just use 10w40 oil with basic filter and change every 2500 miles
different tires are ok as long as the front match each other. on the rear it is ok if they do not matchLose Wheel Bearing Question?
