My school has a robot team that is new this year and our experience with robot wheels has been less than favorable. We originally had wheels that worked, but we had to make a change that rendered them too small. Now we need 5 inch wheels but it is impossible to find wheels that will work for us. Finding wheels that are 5 inches alone is nearly impossible let alone wheels with the right bore size and width. We came to the conclusion that we had to make our own, so that is exactly what we did. The only problem is that we made them out of hard plastic because we need to stay low on weight. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what we can do to our wheels to increase their traction because they get very little and it causes our robot to slide around. We have tried electrical tape with not so phenomenal results and we had used a rubber-type dip on the old wheels that kind of worked. Any suggestions would be appreciated. How can I increase the traction of my robot%26039;s wheels?
You haven't which type of terrain you are using.
If its rocky terrain then do this:
Take wast plastic.
Fire it.
Put melt plastics drop on your wheel.
Make sure that it won't burn your wheel/
So it makes rough surface for your wheel.
I had done this in emergency case during competition.
It worked nice.
I think it shouldn't have any problem in sandy or other terrain. How can I increase the traction of my robot%26039;s wheels?
Ohhhhh, I got this one for you. You want traction. Spray on rubber, the kind they make spray on bed liners from for trucks. How can I increase the traction of my robot%26039;s wheels?
You can buy 5 inches rubber wheel using for heavy tool box. This wheel is installed with bearing and steel support plate where has four holes to hold the screw for tool box to move arround. The wheel can be easily turned 360 degree freely on any direction.

What is a good used car to buy, that is very sporty, and good looking? Good in Snow. Thanks. Any ideas?
Hi!
I was wondering, what would be a good car to buy used, which is very sporty, looks good, and is also unique? Something that average people like me can buy, and enjoy driving on a day to day basis. I want something that gives me a sense of power like Porsche, but comes with a budget. So buying a used BMW or Mercedes or Porsche Boxster will be hard to maintain, and will be expensive on gas. I live in Canada, so cars here are more expensive than the United States. Also, the winters are long, so there is a lot of snow at times. That's why Honda S2000, and Mazda MX-5 are not my consideration now.
To be precise, I love the feeling when you change gear, and the car growls, and also accelerates fast. A car I would be proud to drive every time, and never gets boring. I would also love if it had a good interior, and not something that is plain, boring, or cluttered.
Here are some of my choices;
Honda Accord Coupe
Subaru Legacy
Mazda 3
Mazda 6
Mazda RX-8
Acura TL
Although the Honda Accord Coupe is not as sporty due to front wheel drive, it looks good, and is good on gas. I hear the Mazda RX-8 is very fun to drive, but only in curves, and not on straight roads. The Subaru Legacy is nice, but I don檛 know much about it. Any ideas about these or any other cars?
Right now, Mazda 3 and 6, and also Subaru Legacy are some of my choices. I think the Mazda can be bought new filled with features, without costing me a fortune. Something that comes with a good manual transmission, so it won't be a pain in the snow. It would be nice, if the car was easy to drive with good control, so cornering, and having some fun, won't be much of a risk, or make me look like a bad driver.
I am willing to sacrifice some speed, for a good interior, that feels good to be in. Kind of like the ones in BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai Azera. I apologize if I am asking way too much, or being picky. I am 19, so the world of automotive is a mystery to me, but also one full of wonders. I just want a car that looks and drives unique, can seat five comfortably, does not cost me (a beginner) a lot, and also has an edge that would make me happy to maintain and drive the car for years to come. Something, you would be proud to call your first car, and also hand wash with a smile on your face. How about you? What car brought a smile to your face, that you absolutely loved?
No idiotic, or stupid responses please. Thank you very much for bearing with me.What is a good used car to buy, that is very sporty, and good looking? Good in Snow. Thanks. Any ideas?
personally i'd get the mazda rx-8.
any car really will be good as long as you put on good winter tires. really, i live near toronto and i know, trust me.
use either michelin x-ice or bridgestone blizzak. never tried blizzak, but trust me, michelin x-ice tires are AMAZING!!!What is a good used car to buy, that is very sporty, and good looking? Good in Snow. Thanks. Any ideas?

Mustang GT, they have traction control for the winter and you can get a real nice one with low miles for a decent price. I live in Michigan and I know people who drive them all year. Trust me, you will never get bored! A lot more fun than that Jap or Korean junk.

Replacing car battery?
This will sound like a really dumb question but please bear with me.
I am going to change my car battery, however, I bought the battery new from the store and it has a plasticcovering which I can't get off as well as a plastic handle over it. How the heck do I take these off so I can replace the car battery?
Also...I have a 2002 Chrysler Sebring, meaning I can't access the battery from the hood. I have to take off my left front wheel and am I supposed to just rip the fasteners out? They are in there pretty tight.
Any help would be a million times appreciated, thanks a lot.Replacing car battery?
If the plastic cover is just a shrink wrap, use a knife or razor blade to carefully cut it open. If the handle is in the way you can cut that off also.
The wheel well cover is held on with plastic fasteners that you can carefully pry out. They make a tool for them, but you can also use two small screwdrivers to pull them off. Save the fasteners, because you will need to push them back on when you reinstall the cover.
Make sure that you have the car securely supported (not on the jack alone) before you start to work under the car.
The poster who says that you can access the battery from under the hood is obviously not aware of the location of the battery on that model vehicle.Replacing car battery?
First off you shouldn't have to replace your battery through your wheel well. Just open the hood and access it from there. The plastic covering on the battery is supposed to be there! Do Not Remove It!Replacing car battery?
Take it back to where you bought it and they should show you how to do it correctly.Replacing car battery?
well some do have handle bulit in but im thinking that what you got was just for carrying to car just cut them off and yes you kind of have to pop them out youknow id bet if you was to go and look on auto zone site you could find a repair picture or a how toReplacing car battery?
If the carry strap is in the way, cut ti off and pull the ends through. The plastic covers should pull right off, or have a zip strip to open them up. If not, cut them off with a razor knife. Be sure to clean your cables before you mount them on the battery. They sell post and terminal cleaners at any auto parts store. Clean your cables with baking soda and water mixes like a paste.

Teddy bear hamster?
Please answer...
1. What are the prices for the water bottle, a big food bag, teddy bear hamster, bedding, exercise ball and wheel.(seperate)
2. If you change the cage 1 a week will the hamster still smell? How long does it take to clean?
3. Is a teddy bear hamster the best one to get for an eleven year old girl?
Any other tips or things I should know about, please tell.Teddy bear hamster?
water bottle is like 5 bucks
food bag 7$
hamster 10 bucks
bedding the big ones are like 6$
ball 8-10$
wheel 4-10$
cage dont forget the cage ranges from 20$ and on
if you change the cage once a week the hamster wont smell bad just the cage
a teddy bear hamster is recommended for beginners since they are more tolerant and bite less than dwarf hamstersTeddy bear hamster?
I don't know what the prices are for the stuff separately because I got mines all together in one big box at Pj's Pet Store. A teddy bear hamster cost about $10.00.
Yes, the hamster will still smell but you could get a shampoo thing for hamsters because hamsters don't like to bathe so get a spray shampoo thing and that will make your hamster smell good
If this is your first hamster I suggest you get a regular hamster but if you can handle a squirming little hamster and comb in 3 times a week go for it! You have to comb it like 3 times a week because their fur gets really, really long so you have to comb it. You don't have to but it just gets all messy so I would comb it. But if this is gonna be like your 4th hamster then it's ok. Same with a dwarf hamster, it should be your 4th before you get it.Teddy bear hamster?
i would go with dwarf hamsters. personall expeirence. teddy bear hamsters are big. and they smell even when you clean the cage. dwarf hamster smell less for some reason, and are smaller and cuter. and they dont cost as much moneyTeddy bear hamster?
1) look at petco.com for all prices on things, it depends what size item you are buying, so something like food could range from $5-30
2) yes it does smell, but if you constantly change it every week then it won't smell nearly as bad, not enough to stink up a house, and it usually takes about 5-20 minutes to clean the cage, depending on the model of cage you have, and how througho you are, to take away smells you could use a mild soap to wash it, but this obviously will take longer to clean the cage
3) if you are getting a hamster for an 11 year old, a teddy bear isn't bad, but i think that for a first hamster that syrain is the best, they don't tend to bite as much, but teddy bear hamsters don't bite that much either, i would NOT recommend a dwarf hamster, they bite more and run A LOT faster than a full sized hamster, they seem cute, but they are harder to take care of, espcially if you have an 11 year old who may be impatient
some tips:
~NEVER buy cedar chips, this can be harmful to the hamster
~hamsters need something to nest in, so you will nee to buy bedding and fluff, DO NOT make fluff with something liek toliet paper or tissue paper, if your hamster eats this, it gets stuck in their mouths and they die!
~their teeth are constantly growing, give them something to gnaw on, wood blocks are available at pet stores
~they like to be held, but wash your hands before you hold them, because if you hands smell like food, they may think its food, so they might take a bite at you by accident
~wire cages are well ventalated, but they usually are harder to clean, they come with a water bottle, food dish, and a wheel, but the water bottle that comes with it usually leaks, and the wheel tends to be noisy, tanks are a little small, but they are easier to clean, they smell a little worse because not as much air flow is going in, so washing them becomes a regular chore along with cleaning the cae, you also have to buy your own water bottle and wheel and food dish
~they like to run about, so buy a hamster ball! the first couple of times they won't know what they are doing, so they may not be seeming to enjoy themselves, they get used to it after about 5 times, let them in the ball for about 30 minutes, then return them to cage, they will be hungry or thirsty!
~the first couple of days you have the hamster, let him/her get used to their new surroundings, i know that your daughter will want to handle the hamster, but try to get her not to for about 2-3 days, the hamster will be scared of the new enviroment, so fi you try to pick it up it will probably bite
~the first couple of times you hold it, don't hold it for more than 10 minutes, it takes some time to get used to your smell, it needs a little time to trust you
~they are nocturnal animals! be prepared to sometimes stay up at night because of the loud wheel or chewing on the wired cage (if you choose to get that particular cage, which i recommend by the way) its best to put them in a closet with the door not shut all the way or outside of a room at night
(if i think of any more tips ill add on)
overall they are great pets, espcially for kids who are learning responsiblity!Teddy bear hamster?
1.Well , actually the prices range ...
2 . I change my hamsters cage about 2-3weeks ... %26amp;%26amp; She smells alot better .. But,changing it a week is to much and that is more money you have to spend on ur hamster/s for no reason .

1. All of the all about 29.99 for a cage, water bottle, wheel, and food bowl together. Big food bag 12.05 + tax don't buy the one with seed it make the hamster lazy and fat. Bedding (40 liter)18.87 +tax. and teddy hamster 10.00, exercise ball 7.99. Happiness( priceless).
2. now change once a week is okay, and if you afraid the hamster would smell buy a sand bath, (( not dust bath)).
3. yes, i use to have a teddy bear hamster, but it escape and die 脰, now i got a dwaft hamster and it so cute and noisy
4. Buy yogies for treat and a give here some thing that hamster like, like banna, carrot, but don't give her cirtus fruit.

Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
Jimmy Johnson broke an axle at Daytona in the middle of turns 3 and 4. Dale Jr broke an axle on track, not in the pits like the idiots on TV said, in the middle of turns 1 and 2. Also, Mark Martin's team found out that for some reason his car was %26quot;chewing%26quot; up the axle or drive plate on his car. Whether its the axle itself, drive plate or hub or whatever, it seems to be a problem for this team right now. Chad Knaus said at Daytona the wheel bearing over heated causing to much friction which resulted in the axle breaking. Dale Jr and JJ both broke on the left rear and it was the same exact part that broke on each car and the same problem Mark Martin had during practice at Fontana. Martin's team caught the problem before the race and changed it, but Dale Jr's either didn't wear during practice and started during the race. Or they didn't catch. Either way it seems to be an issue right now for Hendrick drivers. Do you know what would cause this to happen and how can they fix it? Dale Jr had a decent run going, not great but not horrible. It seemed like they just helped his car to drive better on the last stop before this happened. Hendrick needs to do something about these parts or how they are assembled or something and I'm sure he will, but it needs to happen fast or its going to get worse.Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
Yea it needs to be fixed before Atlanta because the way the article was describing is Atlanta is tough on axles too. I'm sure this will not go too far with Rick. He's pretty good about getting to the root of the problem when it comes down to defective parts (remember the valve springs from last year).Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
Yes HMS knows they have a problem. After the final practice in Fontana, all 4 teams changed out their axles. JJ was actually extremely lucky he won that race as they discovered in post race inspection that his were close to failing. You can bet that they will be working very dilligently to fix the problem.Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
There is a problem for sure. I would bet engineering and the machine shop are
double and triple checking everything like mad scientists. HMS has the resources
and will find the problem quickly. It would be very interesting to know what they
find but bet that is not in the cards.Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
Maybe Hendrick Motorsports is testing equipment.
Hendrick Motorsports has no problems winning races and championshipsDoes Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
I didn't know JJ's problem last week was an axle. If that's the case, HMS better get to workDoes Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
Dale Jr. had a decent run going?
Sometimes I wonder what race some of you others are watching when your driver is not performing like you would like.Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
I hope so. Well Jr.'s whole team has an issue. I mean come on, you HAVE to have a spare axle at Fontana. That's just ridiculous.Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
Well at Fontana Jeff's engine was terribleDoes Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
Jeff Gordon Will Need A New Crew Chief.Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
HMS has won the last 4 championships. I hope HMS does indeed have a problem. Mabye the races will actually have a surprising winner. You won't hear any complaints from me if HMS is having some kind of problem. It's sad that HMS has a problem that needs fixed, and a HMS car won at California this past Sunday.
I don't know what you mean by a decent run going. He was running in the 20's most of the race. Open your eyes. A decent run means running at least in the top 10. You are making Dale Jr sound worse than he really is, when you start considering running in the 20's is an improvement. Dale Jr wouldn't have so many haters if JR nation actually talked and made some sense for a change.Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
Are we sure that the problem is not originating with Hendrick teams to start with? I heard them say last year that Dale was having problems with his rear due to having bent it too much in an attempt to corner better. And they could be running too low or too thin a rear end dope in the search for speed causing lack of lubrication on the inside bearing. There is just so much that you can do in the search for a teeny bit more speed and no other team is having any such problem.Does Hendrick Motorsports have a problem that needs fixed?
Yes, Get rid of the 88 car, and bring back Schrader in the 25odp.net charakterset myspace background

1986 Chevette - Good car?
I want to buy an 86 Chevette. It's got 98,000 clicks on it, and it's from the second owner. The two problems are that it needs a wheel bearing replaced, and a possible leak from the radiator. It's aircared and is a daily driver with regular oil changes.
how much would it be to fix these problems? Does this sound like a good buy? Any help would be appreciated.1986 Chevette - Good car?

I owned a Chevette (NOT a CORVETTE) when I was kid. I would NOT suggest it. You can get much better car (like an old Civic) that pays for itself in better gas mileage, longer ownership.
Chevette was poorly designed car with very little engine power, bad gas mileage (good for those days, but bad for today), and things broke often.
Good Luck...

I drove the car for 60K miles (4 years). I spent much of my college years fixing that car. One of the reasons why I know so much about fixing cars is because I spent so much time fixing (that) car. yeah, they are not the greatest car, but i drove one from san mateo to rancho cordova with a rounded cam, destroyed rocker arms, and misplaced tappets, and still managed to get home. it was a loud 125 mile trip but i made it. that car is not worth all of the work that you will put into it, unless you are only going after the fuel economy, which it still might not be worth the effort. but the wheel bearing and radiator can not be that expensive.1986 Chevette - Good car?
you didn't sate price of car.....if its cheap buy it...i used chevettes for years as pizza delivery cars ...they were no more trouble than any other type of car we used...the rear brake set up with the cams were a bad design but other than that they ran fine.........car value 500 to 1000 dollars on today's market would be a fair price and it would have to be in excellent shape to be worth a 1000...wheel bearing front if no complications arise 100 to 125 the rad.with labor and fluid 200.to250........this car may be hard to find parts for...so be aware of that if u buy one1986 Chevette - Good car?

Rubbing-like noise on 2005 Ford Escape?
My car's making a noise that sounds similar to something rubbing on one of the tires (but it's not).. Sound changes based solely on speed I'm travelling.... In addition, I have noticed the sound getting louder when driving on a left curve fast enough that the car's weight shifts to the right....
Based on another question I found, and an educated guess, I'm guessing it's a wheel bearing on one of the right side wheels... Would this be accurate?
How urgent would this problem be to fix? Would highway travel be safe with this problem not yet fixed?
ThanksRubbing-like noise on 2005 Ford Escape?
I say it could be a wheel bearing and you could tell by having that end of the vehicle off the ground jacked up onto stands etc, rotate the wheel and see how it spins and listen to it and compare it to the opposite wheel.Or go get a free front end and brake check done and they should be trying each wheel by spinning them and should tell you if the bearing is going.
Not sure if need to panic about it but it's best to get it replaced if it's going.
If the truck is under warranty still take it in asap.
Hope that helps and best of luck.Rubbing-like noise on 2005 Ford Escape?
If it sounds like a rough growling noise, then it is the wheel bearing. To test that, use a jack to raise the vehicle clightly and just spin the wheel. If it's like a growling noise, it's most likely the wheel bearing in which they will need to be replaced.

Chevrolet Venture Van problems?
We were told that a rod bearing is bad in our engine and it will cost around $3,000 to repair. The oil has been changed every 3000 miles and the vehicle only has 87,000 miles on it. What is the best way to pull the engine for possible replacement or repair? The mechanic said we must have gotten a lemon because he's heard very little in the way of problems. Other problems we've had repaired consist of wheel bearing replacement 4 times, defective sliding door, coolant leak, air conditioning stopped working a week after warranty was up and air bag system malfunction. I had an extended warranty from GM on the motor only. We noticed a noise from the lifters and took it in for repair. It was supposedly repaired but one week after the repair, the rod bearing is damaged. Can anyone advise on how to proceed with this van?...short of a bonfire?Chevrolet Venture Van problems?
Doesn't your extended warranty cover this? 3K sounds high for a bearing replacement unless they are doing more than just that...I would check around for different shops to quote the job and see if it can be done without pulling the motor. You may have other problems with the motor once they get into the repair so it may not even be worth it to do. Maybe check around at dealers to see what they would give you for trade-in value in it's present condition. Some dealers like to do that because they can fix it at cost and make a profit on it if the van's in good shape otherwise. Weigh the trade-in value as is versus what it would be worth if you spent the money to fix it.Chevrolet Venture Van problems?

Small question about a car noise?
I drive a 2001 Hyundai Elantra. Lately I've noticed a noise that seems to be coming from possibly the front driver's side wheel area. When I get to driving 20+ mph, it becomes like a humming-type noise that is more predominant when turning left, and seems to almost disappear when turning the wheel to the right. Any ideas on what it could be?
Another part to this question, is that would anyone know how I'd be able to check and see which bearing on the front is bad? What would I need to look for, so I don't go changing the good one by mistake?Small question about a car noise?
Hyundai front wheel bearings can be expensive and difficult to replace. they are sealed and non-serviceable. if you turn left and the noise gets louder usually that means its the right side. however it could also be a tire making the noise. start by jacking up the front end. grab the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock. pull at 12 and push at 6, and vise verse. if you feel play or looseness in that wheel that bearing is bad. look at the tires and see if there is uneven tread. this could also be causing the noise. also you could switch left front tire with right front tire to see if the noise moves. if so it's a tire. hope this helps.Small question about a car noise?
You always do both--same with brakes--you always do both. This is part of owning a car--maintenance is on going and you never wait till noises start or you could lose the whole car. get the bearings done soon--the spindle is probably being chewed down to the point where it will snap off and you won't have a very nice day after that.Small question about a car noise?

Why does my protege make this weird noise/vibration?
Ok, my 2001 mazda protege lx 2.0 has been making a weird noise and vibration lately. It is sort of like a loud hum, and can be deafening over 100 km/h. I thought perhaps it was just a wheel out of balance, so I switched the front passenger side wheel with the rear passenger side wheel, and same on the drivers side, and it helped the noise a bit. Before changing the tires around, I also had this crazy vibration that I could feel through the steering wheel. It seems to have lessened now that I rotated the tires.
A couple mechanics think it is the wheel bearing, but I don't see how it could be that, consider the car only has like 100,000 kms on it. Plus, switching the wheels around wouldn't have improved it then would it?
Other tire people think I just need to get my wheels balanced. Not sure on that yet, but plan to try it anyway perhaps.
The car still has its stock tires, which still have some usable tread on them, but need replacing soon anyway. Why does my protege make this weird noise/vibration?
Wow stock tires on a 7 year old car with 100km. Sounds to me like you have two problems, since it did improve but not go totally away after the rotation. Sounds like you have a tire issue and a wheel bearing issue. I would get it into a reputable repair facility and have a professional check it out.Why does my protege make this weird noise/vibration?
well heres a great test i learn many years ago working at goodyear... tire test one put car in drive but dont gaive gas juts let it roll feel anything.. bad wheel or tire..... now if you drive above 45 and you feel something either its a tire balance problem or a drive train problem.. id bet you have a bad tire or its out of balance which if you have not had done a few times with your tire is a real good chance shoul dbe rebalance every other time you rotate them.. tire wear down so the balance changes.. if your tires are wore the ride will change.. but for the noice could be a bearing going bad have you have the front end greased any or had the wheel bearing out to be grease... yo ucan check that by shaking the tire side to side with it on a jack if you feel much slack then its a good bet they about gone... and dont think about the miles so much its where it was drove and how it was drove and the right side of all cars is the first to so signs roads are built with a lean for water run off so the car leans to the right so waering out the right side of parts on everything.. having two peole tell you it might be the bearing now you have another it might be the bearing... been a tire guy 30 yrs your tires are almost 8 year old they bad and im thinking the front end has never been greased so the bearings are bad to sorrybig hair how old do i look

What causes a grabbing noise like after changing the front brake pads on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan?
It was making like a grabbing noise ( don't know how to explain it) every time you stepped on the brakes. Replaced the front brake shoes (which was worn down and needed to be replaced) Took it for a test drive and now that noise is alot louder then what it was before. It is coming from the passenger front side. I noticed on that right side rotor passengers side it had some grooves in the rotor. Which means that the brakes been down to far. But anyway the new shoes should wear in where it shouldn't make any noise but still does. Got over 50 miles on the new brake shoes. Would the wheel bearing be going out on that side? That is my only thought now. What causes a grabbing noise like after changing the front brake pads on a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan?
There has been a rash of bad pads on the market recently. Some pads emit a gas when heated up just a little. Essentially Fart ing out between the pads and rotors making a horrible groan at very low speeds.

What is the best way to line up the transmission on a FWD vehicle?
I changed my clutch and am having a bear of a time trying to line up the transmission to the engine (the splines that is), and placing the driveshafts into it at the sametime. Any reccomendations on how to do it? Its a Mazda 6 V6 manual if that helps (very similar drivetrain setup to the Ford Fusion, Contour, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln Zephyr if that helps) Is the best way to focus on getting the driveshafts in, and then pushing the tranny against the flywheel, and then turning the wheels to turn the spline on the tranny to match up with the engine. There are a total of 3 of us, two jacks, and a jackstand. Thanks! What is the best way to line up the transmission on a FWD vehicle?
is the transmission bell parallel to the back of the block? if it is at a slight angle (easy to do), it will cause the splines to bind. Get a few long bolts that thread into the engine block and cut the heads off to make guide pins to help hold the tranny in the proper position. What is the best way to line up the transmission on a FWD vehicle?
It sounds like your doing more work then necessary. First did you have an alignment shaft for when you put the clutch on the flywheel? If not, that is probably your most major problem with alignment. If you did, then try to slowly rotate the input shaft on the trans a little at a time till everything should go together smoothly. Good luck. By the way, don't put the CV's in, as its hard enough to move the tranny without extra things binding you up.What is the best way to line up the transmission on a FWD vehicle?
the last 2 have some good advice. lose the cv joints till the trans is bolted in and use some long guide bolts to help line it up. I also use a drift ( long tapered spike you might call a punch) to line up 2 corresponding holes in the trans and engine. I assume you had an alignment tool with the new clutch. What I think your biggest problem is, is a wear pattern formed on your input shaft splines. I ran into this problem and couldnt get the trans back in to save my life. and I had a lift and a trans jack. remove the trans so you can work on it and see what you are doing. when the engine is running it is putting stress on only one side of all the splines. If you look very carefully at the tip of every spline you should see or feel a sharp corner on one edge. the splines a re triangular one edge should be rounded and one shold be sharp. go around the shaft and file or gently grind off the sharp edge on every single spline. I did that and the trans practically fell in place the first time after i cleaned up the splines.

1998 Grand Cherokee 5.2 bearing issues?
I'm looking for some feedback on this:
I just purchased a used 98 grand cherokee with 84000 miles. Everything seems to be perfect on it but I hear that noise that changes pitch the faster you go. Like a friction coming from the back.
I went to the jeep dealership and had a mechanic take a ride with me and he said it sounded liek the wheel bearings. He said it would range ebtween 500 to 1000 dollar job depended on how long this ha dbeen going on.
I got the jeep for 6700$ after taxes which was a cash price. I did the blue book value of it and its close to 10,000. It really is in good condition except by that detail.
Can I go to the place i bought it from and have them fix it? Can I even legally request that since I bought it yesterday?
Any input would be appreciated.1998 Grand Cherokee 5.2 bearing issues?
the noise sounds like a wheel bearing. the jeep might have a dana 35 rear end. if it does then it is a fairly simple operation to change it . i have a dana 35 on my 83 amc/jeep eagle and
removed the axles myself.there should be 4 bolts holding the backing plate on. to access it you will have to remove all of the brake hardware including the brake lines off the wheel
cylinder and the e-brakes. now you should see the 4 bolts.
on the backside of the plate you will find the nuts. remove them, using a dead blow mallet(rubber) gently tap on the spindle till the shaft loosens up. then gently slide it out.
remember to replace both bearing at the same time.
if you don't have a bearing press then go to your favorite shop and have the bearing removed and your new ones installed. make sure you have a repair manual to refer to.
if you have any other jeep questions go to www.bulltear .com

How do I email millions of people to ask for investors for a green energy invention.?
I have a theory for a green energy invention. I need venture capitial or individual investors. I am limited because I do no't own a computer. I am using one at the local library. I am new to using a computer. I have taken 3 classes. I talked to a physics professor about my invention. I asked the professor to prove me wrong. When the professor could not prove me wrong he got angry and said,%26quot;It will never work, but if it does, you will win a Noble Prize%26quot;. I need help to obtain the patent and build a prototype. My problem is that I have no money. I am a 51 year old, unemployed, self educated, construction worker. My invention will end the world's addiction to fuel, and stop the pollution producted by energy production. Imagine cheaper power bills and a car that uses no fuel and you never have to plug it in. Just drive it till something breaks. A drive shaft,or wheel bearing, something like that. If you are interested in changing the world please contact me.How do I email millions of people to ask for investors for a green energy invention.?

How Unusual for wheel bearings to fall out of my mini van?
I was parked in a parking lot, pulled back out of the spot and heard this terrible crunching like I was driving over something metal. A man was walking toward me and said a ball bearing just fell out of my mini van ( a Chrysler Town %26amp; Country 2005).
Could not move the car forward or back a good samaritan help push it back in the spot found 3 more ball bearings ( or wheel bearings?)
Called to have it towed, will find out the damage tomorrow.
How unusual is this to happen, no noise or problems just before the bearing fell out, was driving fine. I have 31,000 miles on the car, get the oil changed every 3,000 miles. In fact was in getting oil changed at 30,000 miles, should the mechanic been able to see this problem?
I've just never heard of this happening before. I hope its covered under warranty since I haven't had it 3 years and its under 36,000 miles but I don't know for sure.
Any info on this would be welcomed.

Well sometimes with kids and a radio you may not have heard the early warning sounds. Been a mechanic for 35 years, only seen this happen three or four times, but it happens. Unless you have an exceptional warranty I don't think it will be covered. Some people that change oil don't drive the vehicle long enough to here a problem such as this one. Sorry! no good news. How Unusual for wheel bearings to fall out of my mini van?
That vehicle has unit bearings that are the sealed type. If the wheel bearing gave up that bad, you would not be able to push it . Probably the CV joint gave up. Should be covered under warranty. Did you hear any clicking noises while making a sharp, slow speed turn? That's an indicator of the CV joint going bad.

Relax, you are 100% covered by the 3 year/36k warranty, it wont cost you a cent. It is very unusual for 31k, sounds like the inner cv joint went out. Take it back to the dealer and they will fix it for no charge. How Unusual for wheel bearings to fall out of my mini van?

REMOVAL
1. Remove the wheel and tire.
2. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor(A) from the knuckle.
3. Disconnect the brake hose(A) from the knuckle.
4. Remove the caliper assembly(A) and suspend it with wire.
5. Remove the split pin and driveshaft castle nut from the front hub.
6. Remove the 2 bolts(A) and disconnect the ball joint from the knuckle.
7. Using a plastic hammer, disconnect the driveshaft from the axle hub.
8. Using the special tool (09568-4A000), disconnect the tie rod end from the knuckle.
9. Loosen the upper armmounting nut but do not remove it.
10. Using the special tool (09568-4A000), disconnect the upper arm from the knuckle.
11. Remove the front axle and knuckle together.
12. Installation is the reverse of removal.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the brake disc from the hub.
2. Remove the snap ring.
3. Using the special tool (09545-34100), disconnect the hub from the knuckle.
4. Using the special tools (09432-11000, 09545-34100), remove the wheel bearing inner race from the hub.
5. Using the special tools (09216-21600, 09216-22100), remove the wheel bearing outer race from the knuckle.
INSPECTION
1. Check the hub for cracks and splines for wear.
2. Check the snap ring for cracks or damage.
3. Check the knuckle inner surface for scoring and cracks.
REASSEMBLY
1. Apply a thin coat of multi-purpose grease to the knuckle and bearing contact surface.
2. Using the special tool (09216-21100), press-in the bearing to the knuckle.
? Do not press against the inner race of the wheel bearing because that can cause damage to the bearing assembly.
? Always use a new bearing assembly.
3. Install the snap ring into the groove of the knuckle.
4. Using the special tool (09545-21100), press the hub on to the knuckle.

Do not press against the outer race of the wheel bearing because that can cause damage to the bearing assembly.
5. Tighten the hub to the knuckle to 200 Nm (20 kgf·m, 148 lb-ft) with the special tool (09517-21500).
6. Rotate the hub to seat the bearing.
7. Measure the wheel bearing starting torque.
Standard value
Starting torque : 1.8 Nm (0.18 kgf·m, 16 lb-ft) or less
Fix a dial gauge and measure the hub end play. Check that it is within the standard value.
Standard value
Hub end play : 0.008 mm (0.0003 in) or less
8. Remove the special tool.
9. Install the disc to the hub.
Not an easy job also considering its a pressed bearing style. You will need special tools for removal as well a 20 tone press to install new bearing in the hub. As said...not a back-yard job.

2000 chevrolet Blazer LS 4x4 4.3 Litre 135000 km ?
When I drive my Blazer straight it makes a growling or howling sound when I go on a curve to the right it quits and when I go on a curve to the left it keeps makin that noise. I put on new tires and the rear end is full of gear oil. I think its the wheel bearing but i aint sure what one and i dont want 2 spend money on that if i'm wrong and if thats what it is how do you change it and do you need a press. thanks2000 chevrolet Blazer LS 4x4 4.3 Litre 135000 km ?
Its is your left front wheel bearing and the part is going to be alot more than $35. Probably closer to $100 and a decent amount of labor. It is a full hub assembly that you would have to purchase, not just the bearing and race. You wont need a press but you may need a hub puller.2000 chevrolet Blazer LS 4x4 4.3 Litre 135000 km ?
it should be your front wheel bearing hub the one part should be about 35.00

Are Pre 98 Ford Ranger's reliable trucks?
I'd like to get a Pre 98 Ford Ranger with 5spd manual.
I can afford a 92-96 Ford Ranger.
Would be used as a daily driver as well as hauling light loads of dirt, tools, furniture and other stuff. I'm 6'3%26quot;, should fit just fine in the regular cab.
I don't need a powerful, fast truck but one that gets good mpg. No less than 19 mpg.
I not sure which engine to go with. Which one is most reliable: 2.3L, 3.0L V6, 4.0L V6?
The 2.3L has rubber timing belt and 8 spark plugs. Would be a pita to change them.
All three engines are cast iron block and head, the 3.0L and 4.0L has timing chain.
We have had one Ford in our Family a long time ago. It was a 1989 Ford Aerostar with 3.0L Vulcan V6.
Never had a problem with it, regular maintenance, tires, brakes, fluid, maybe just a wheel bearing after 8 years. Wouldn't mind a Ranger with the same 3.0L Vulcan V6 engine.
Would the 3.0L get the same or better mpg than the 4.0L V6?
I can usually find one with 120,000-150,000 miles that's been well cared for in nice shape.
How many miles are they reliable for?
I only drive 12,000+ miles per year, would keep it for 4 years.
Never owned a Ford small truck before, how do you guys like your trucks? Are Pre 98 Ford Ranger%26039;s reliable trucks?
All the 88 up Rangers have Mazda drivetrains so they are very dependable. If you want mileage, get the 2.5- 4 cylinder with the 5 speed, mine got almost 30 mpg, just sold it with 257K on it and bought a 3.0 5 speed 4WD, its not quite getting 20mpg so far. The 3.0s in the rangers are pretty rare, only 28% had 3.0s in them! The 2.5 isn't an interference engine, so ya don't have to worry about the belt breaking and taking out the engine! I am 6'1 I fit in both regular and my new extended cab, the extended cab is nice with the lil extra room the seat goes back farther!
BTW, the 2WDs are worthless in the snow! Are Pre 98 Ford Ranger%26039;s reliable trucks?
My little ranger has the 3.0L engine, which i really like,it;s good on gas mileage(21mpg) has enough power to stay up with the big boys,It's just a good around small truck that will get you from point a to point b without any problems. Are Pre 98 Ford Ranger%26039;s reliable trucks?

Car trouble. Sell, fix and sell, or just fix and keep.?
I owned a pt cruiser that gave out right when I pulled up to the dealership about an hour and a half away from my home, so I was kind of forced to buy a car.
I didn’t have much money so I bought a 99 Chevy cavalier with 197,000 miles on it for 2 grand.(didn’t have much of a choice really, cheapest car they had and I had no other way to get home)
The guy at the dealership said “no known problems with it, runs perfect. Didn’t need to do any repairs because everything checked up good on it. The only problem is how many miles it has. It just had an oil change so you should even be good on that too!”
So like an idiot on the spot I buy it. (It was like 6:30pm and I had class bright and early the next day)
Later I notice that the ABS light is on, didn’t think much of it since I wasn’t sure what it meant. Then the “ETS off” light…clueless still. The next day I realize that two of my blinkers are out, I decided that there wasn’t much to worry about, id just get them replaced, so I did. I also had to replace three fuses, then I realized that the sticker on my window with the company title that I purchased the vehicle from had the date of when the next oil change is due…it’s due 3,000 miles from now… or one month from now. Then the next day the emergency brake light comes on, so I take it to Tuffy to have them look at it. They tell my wheel bearing needs replaced a $164.15 part with $76.00 labor. Now things are just getting annoying. I WANTED a car that I wouldn’t have to pay a bunch to repair on. I don’t have any money left, if I knew this would happen I would have fixed the PT that I found out blew a head gasket…but that car only had 97,00 miles on it...I need a RELIABLE Vehicle… is 2 grand not enough for that? Was I ripped off? I feel like I was. Is it worth fixing? Should I sell it now before anything ells goes wrong so I can get SOME money back? if i do sell it, should i fix it up first or just be done with it now?Car trouble. Sell, fix and sell, or just fix and keep.?
The cavalier isnt that bad of a car, but with the amount of miles on it? and you are just beginning to see what has gone wrong with it. i look at it this way, if it was such a good car then why did the original owner let it go? When things go wrong, they just keep going wrong. yes you overpaid for that car, but this is how we learn through life's lessons. You have a choice to make, bring the car to a shop for an estimate of repairs then make a decision whether to fix or sell. The PT cruiser would have cost you at least $600 for a new head gasket and it would have been fixed in a day or so. You still have the lemon law right where you live and you may have the option to return the car back to the dealer. You can always claim insanity and the stress you were under for the need of a car and the dealer took advantage of you in that respect.

No matter what old car you buy, you will have to spend money on. Your lucky u only wasted about 300 bucks. Your best choice now is just to repair the car, and for a 99 cavalier 97,000 miles on it isnt that much.Car trouble. Sell, fix and sell, or just fix and keep.?
Unfortunately it sounds like you got scammed. You should have asked to see a car fax report on the vehicle before you bought it. There are allot of high mileage vehicles out there that are fairly decent. High mileage today is not as important a factor as it used to be. If you can verify that the veclicle has been well maintained and has had no extraordinary problems in the past you may be o.k. Of coarse any used vehicle is a gamble. If you have a lemon law where you live you may wish to take advantage of it. Personally, If it were me I'd ditch the car A.S.A.P and consider it a hard lesson learned. As far as the PT Cruiser goes -They are JUNK right from the factory and have gotten some really rotten reviews. Also- If you're tempted to buy another Chrysler product STAY AWAY from Chrysler Seabrings. They ,historically ,have some major engine oil pressure issues. Also Chrysler and Dodge have a really bad reputation for weak transmissions. NEXT TIME DON'T JUMP ON A SALE- DO SOME ONLINE RESEARCH!Car trouble. Sell, fix and sell, or just fix and keep.?
Either way you look at it you are gonna be out some money. No one will give you 2k for it and probably not much more than 1200. So weigh your options of whether its better to sink more money into the car or take a loss of probably a grand after all the repairs you have put into it and the loss in what you would actually get for the car. Here is an idea, look for a Volunteers of America center near you, take the car there and see what they will give you for the car. The VOA can have great deals on cars. I have bought 3 cars from them in the last 5 years and have been happy with all of them. The most I have ever paid was 2100 for a car. The best deal I ever got there was a 1997 Ford Explorer Eddy Baur Edition for 1700!! In excellent shape to. Being a student may help you in the purchase price of a vehicle. It did for the Explorer. I bought it for my daughter to get to and from school so they lowered the price. Good luck.where did my folder walk Can you sleep with just a duvet cover

Teddy bear hamster cage and wheel problem?
So, i got a really good metal wheel for my hamster, but it was slightly too big to fit in the cage. I can't refund since it was a present, but i don't want to buy another wheel since the metal one is really good. So is there someway that i can make it smaller by maybe changing it's frame, or can you tell me a way to make a homemade wheel? I need to make the wheel smaller somehow.
This is something like what the wheel looks like:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41
The wheel works really well and my hamster likes it a lot, but it just won't fit! I can still close the cage though with the wheel in it, but my hamster can't move it.
This is how my cage looks like, but without the tubes, and all the things inside. My cage is also shorter. The width is probably the same.

Please help! I'm going to be moving soon, and the subsitute cage i use for my hamster (which is a recycling bin) is too troublesome to move.Teddy bear hamster cage and wheel problem?
Well, you can't really make a homemade wheel or change the framing of the wheel, but you can buy a new one. I know you said you don't want to buy a new one, but it is only $3 for a metal wheel...
Hope this helps!Teddy bear hamster cage and wheel problem?
getting a metal wheel is bad because your hamsters feet can get hurt and may have to be amputtated you can get the silent spinner but is costs 15 dollars you may use that as an option

How do you remove the spindle from the knuckle?
My Dad is changing the bearings on the front passenger side of my Nissan Sentra Classic 1992. (front wheel drive) He have the tool for the bearing. Except we can't get to them. He's gotten to the point where he can see the bearings on one side (the side the faces towards the motor). However, we can't figure out how to remove the spindle from the knuckle (the outside facing part). That's the part that hooks up to the wheel with 4 bolts sticking out. Thank you.How do you remove the spindle from the knuckle?
There's no such thing as a %26quot;spindle%26quot; on the front end of FWD cars. The stub shaft of the CV shaft serves that purpose. Kind of. And since you've already removed the CV....
Maybe this will help;

How to replace front end bearings in 2000 FORD TAURUS?
My car has been making a loud humming noise and I think it's the bearings. I called dealership they say its (bearing) sold as a whole assembly (wheel hub). I've changed bearings before but not a wheel hub. Is it hard? I want to give it a shot. Will I need special tools? Any websites that can help?
Thanks,How to replace front end bearings in 2000 FORD TAURUS?
If you are familiar with the procedure on replacing front brakes yourself, it's not too difficult. However, you will need some special tools for this particular job, on this particular vehicle. Firstly, jack up the front of the vehicle as far as possible. Second, remove both front wheels. Remove the two 12mm bolts securing the brake caliper to the bracket. Using a broken piece of coathanger, hand caliper up on one of the spring coils. Using a 1/2%26quot; drive short 15mm socket and johnson bar, remove the two 15mm bolts securing the caliper bracket and pads to the steering knuckle. Using a 30mm impact socket with impact gun, remove the axle nut. Using an impact 21mm or 13/16%26quot; socket and impact gun, remove the lower ball joint nut. Using an air hammer with a pointed end, hammer end of shaft INWARD, until shaft moves freely on the hub. Using a pitman arm puller, separate the ball joint from the lower arm. Using the same 15mm impact socket, remove the three bolts that secure the hub to the steering knuckle. Using the air hammer, chisel the hub and bearing assembly from the steering knuckle. Installation is reverse of removal. Hope this helps. How to replace front end bearings in 2000 FORD TAURUS?
Do you remove the steering knuckle from the car? I am having difficulty removing the hub from the steering knuckle.
you need the whole hub for this car. remove the tire the release the axle bolt. remove the brakes the caliper and the rotor. after that you will see 3 or 4 nuts or bolts behind the rotor loosen them and knock on the axle towark the car. then you have to remove the whole assembly. you got to know what you are doing. How to replace front end bearings in 2000 FORD TAURUS?
most of the other answers are right on, however, depending on where in the country you live, you could have a bunch of corrosion between the steel hub and the aluminum steering knuckle, i did one a few weeks ago and it busted my a$$ and didn't want to come apart, i used a slide hammer with a hub adapter(places like pepboys have them you could borrow) and after some swinging and cursing it came outHow to replace front end bearings in 2000 FORD TAURUS?
I recommend replacing the hub and bearing assembly as one unit. In most cases when replacing just the bearing, the hub is usually scored by the old bearing and then once its installed your right back at square one with the same problem. Its not a job for amateurs and if not properly installed, you could get hurt while driving. Try to get someone with some automotive repair background to coach you if you insist on doing the job yourself. Its not worth trying to save money if you do the job wrong.

okay sparky..well its easier than you think..you will need a manual on how to do it like a haynes you can get them at autozone or even at a book store..and then get your parts and jack up the front end and remove the tires and have you ever done the brakes on the front end..you will have to remove all that stuff and the rotor as well..then romove the coter pin and caskel nut and then remove the hub and if the bolts dont come with the new one you will have to remove the old ones or get new ones...and once you put in the new bolts place the hub on too the spindell axel and replace the nut and pin and do the brakes..and then the put the tires back on..and lower the car and dont forget to tighten every thing..I never have done this before but I have seen it done on tv..good luck...no spell check..this time..

What is Wrong Here, Hard to find problem?
'00 Ford Contour SE 4 cylinder, 2.0 Engine Front Wheel Drive.
I have a problem where my car vibrates on the freeways and if l'm just driving on the streets, I can hear a low grinding sound... I was told I needed the sway bar links, transmission mounts %26amp; Motor mounts and lower control arms replaced. I have just replaced The Transmission %26amp; engine mounts last year. The sway bar links are covered with grease and the round ends have exposed metal. They said the rubber parts on the lower control arms where worn out. I posted pictures here so you can see the area's I'm talking about. The control arms look like they are lifted or seperated when the car is on the ground, is this how it suppose to look? the transmission is a little too close to the frame, is that normal? It's alot because I tried to get different views. I have changed the cv half shaft, wheel bearing, brake pads %26amp; rotors, and tires, on the side were the vibrating is coming from, but the problems continue. Could these two parts be what is causing the 2 problems if not what could it be? Thanks.

If those bushings are toasted on the control arms, you need new arms. Those bushings can't be replaced. They are an integral part of the arm. The sway bar link would not be the problem. Someone trying to squeeze more money out of you. Also, replace the entire shaft and on both sides. Not just the half shaft. What is Wrong Here, Hard to find problem?
If those bushings are worn that could definitely lead to a uneven/rough ride... and either way wouldn't hurt to replace them, specifically the control arms. What is Wrong Here, Hard to find problem?

The %26quot;gear%26quot; is the ABS brake sensor wheel. That is used to read whether the wheel is turning or the brakes locked up in a skid. That is most liely not your problem unless you feel the brakes pulsing. Take it to a mechanic at this point. Look at how much you spent for no reason.

How to Remove rear wheel from 1994chevy cavalier?
Right - simple enough as I've changed many a flat tire on most every make - done brake jobs etc
However - this beast will not come loose. It seems stuck or rusted on what I figure is a bearing cap.
Used lots of screwloose - wire brush and some force. To no avail.
There is no manual or special tool in the kit.
Word of mouth is it is a common problem.
Oh yeah, not my car, as common maintenence would have likely have prevented all this. How to Remove rear wheel from 1994chevy cavalier?
here's what i've had to do many times. loosen the lugnuts out about 2 turns then drive it down your driveway a little and pull the parking brake (since that only stops the back wheels. don't go to fast. just 2-3 miles an hour (a medium role) do it a few times in forward and reverse untill it breaks loose.
yes, this has the potential to damage threads and is used as a last resort when a rubber mallet dosn't work (which i have found useless in the past.) if the lugnuts are only loosened a little and you don't drive it round the block, and just drive it a few feet up and down a driveway you will do no damage. How to Remove rear wheel from 1994chevy cavalier?
I cant believe that guys said drive the car with the lugs loose. idiot. that can **** up the threads on the wheel studs. If your rim is rusted to the hub just get a rubber hammer and hit the side of the tire or rim. Should knock it right off.

Car is shaking and steering wheel feels loose...?
I have a 99 Hyundai Accent 5 speed. It is just under 91K miles. I bought it in September. I recently started noticing a shake and the steering wheel felt a little loose, but I just figured it was the tires, so I replaced 2 of the tires, and then went on a road trip (Virginia Beach to Central PA)..I still felt the shaking so I figured it needed balanced. So I took it to get it balanced and changed another tire in the process. But the shaking is still happening..it's at it worst when I hit about 60. I'll have my hands on the steering wheel trying to go straight, but it's like weaving slightly back and forth, with it leaning more toward the right. I started noticing it got really bad on my way home from PA and has gotten progressively worse since then. I've been looking on here and it seems like it's the wheel bearing or the ball joint. And it's weird how it shakes, because it's almost like it goes in a circle..It vibrates for 2 seconds, stops for 2 seconds, vibrates for 2 seconds, etc. I don't want to take it to the shop because my brother can fix what ever it is, it's just the fact that I don't want to drive this car to his house if it's something that could cause me to get in an accident, so could someone tell me what it possibly could be?? Thank you so much!Car is shaking and steering wheel feels loose...?
Sound like a power steering rack problems . Have it checked along with you tie rod ends .Car is shaking and steering wheel feels loose...?
get an alignment and have the components of the front end inspected....ball joints and tie rod ends to wear out .......
even a bent brake rotor can cause problems.Car is shaking and steering wheel feels loose...?
It could be the ball joints or the wheel bearing the best thing to do is have it taken to a shop and have them just do an inspection, not only will that narrow down the problem but it may also be more than just one problem. when they check it out they can tell u everything wrong with the car, so ur brother can fix it for u. To have them do a complete inspection will cost about a 100$ depending on where you go, but can save u some time and hassle later, and also you can know what needs to be done on the car rather than just waiting untill something else breaks.

Rear wheel took a hit and now squeaks quite loud when I'm driving, except when brake is applied.?
I have a front wheel drive Mitsubishi 380. No too long ago the rear left wheel hit a curb quite hard. The wheel itself survived but now there is a loud squeaking noise coming from the rear wheel. The noise gets quite loud and only lessens as I apply the brakes. Even while driving slowly the squeaking occurs. Also, if I havent driven the car overnight or for a few hours it takes a bit of time for the squeaking to start. I have had a full wheel alignment done and they could not see what was causing the noise. From what I know it's most likely a damaged wheel bearing that is causing the problem but can anyone else suggest what else it could be and how much roughly repair would cost? I have also have the brake pads changed as I thought it couldbe contributing to the squeaking recently but the noise it still there just as before.

Im afraid it is a wheel bearing, I have changed a front bearing by removing the hub assembly and removing the axle nut, then I had to take the hub to have the bearing pressed out, 2hours labor in a shop and a $40 bearing, roughly $220 if I had had it done in a shopsocial security tax compact disc drive back

Low Noise and electrical problem?
' 00 Ford Contour SE. Front wheel drive
My car has a low grinding noise any time I drive on the street or freeway. It only happens when I'm driving %26amp; not when parked in idle. The noise comes from one side of the car. It sounds like its metal grinding on metal but its not that loud. Its coming from under the pedals on the left side of the car. I have changed the wheel bearings %26amp; Cv shaft that goes from the wheel to the transmission. I was told it could be the hub assembly, is that true, can a worn out or damaged hub assembly cause the noise? Since i replaced the wheel bearing and left the hub assembly there, do i now have to replace the wheel bearing too? what can it be? maybe the tie rod?
electrical problem -
the power locks control switch on the driver %26amp; front passenger side doors don't work, they don't lock any of the doors. How can i find the problem?
Thank You.Low Noise and electrical problem?
I'm not all that sure about your noise problem but on your electrical is probably a fuse or like some dealerships they unplug the cord to the switch to make more money off of you. Check your fuses and if thats not it take the door panels off and see if they are unplugged.HOPE IT HELPED!!!

How can i tell wether or not my t-bird has?
i have a 96 t bird. i already changed the wheel hub assembly on the driver side. the passenger side wheel hub assembly look pretty new. my question is how can you tell which suspension you have? it could be either sport or standard. the passenger side humbs badly and the wheel hub bearing is going out. what could cause a new hub assembly to go bad? could it be just the spindle is wrong for the suspension? How can i tell wether or not my t-bird has?
the dealer or internet can tell you by the vin if there are wires going to the struts or a interior switch to adjust it is sport but that would have nothing to do with wheel bearings if they are correct for the vehicle and went bad it is because they were either to tight, to loose, or not greased properly

Are my bearing bad? Are they hard to change?
Hi, i just purchased a 1999 cbr600 f4 a few weeks ago and i rode it for the first time last weekend. I noticed that the back wheel felt a little sloppy (like it wobbled a little bit) so i got off the bike and i could just move the tire a little bit with my hand.
Do the bearings in the rear wheel need to be replaced or is it safe to ride on it like this? Could it be something else? If they do need to be replaced could you help me as to how i would go about doing that. Thanks! Are my bearing bad? Are they hard to change?

It is definitely NOT safe to ride in its current condition. You need to check and correct the cause of the problem: It could be the wheel bearings, or the swing-arm bearings. I'm assuming that the rear axle is properly tightened. First, you need the service manual for your year/model of bike. There are too many steps and too many specifics (i.e. torque values for reassembly) to learn it all online. Are my bearing bad? Are they hard to change?
Be careful! I wouldn't ride it in this condition if I were you and if you absolutely HAVE to ride very slowly. Sounds like you have either a loose swing arm / rear triangle or your axel just needs to be tightened.
Get this checked out asap or if u feel competent enough try to make sure everything is tight back there.
Good luck with the fix :)Are my bearing bad? Are they hard to change?
Bearings are the likely culprit, it need not be just the wheel bearings though, it could also be the swingarm bearings.
If you can notice a problem when riding they are probably completely shot and are not safe to ride with.
But first check the easy bits, tyre pressure, chain adjustment, fasteners tightened (to the correct torque).how to communicate with your spouse web design company

I need help with purchasing a 2004 Impreza, please answer some questions.?
Im thining about buying a 2004 impreza, here are the specs:
1. No liens on the car.
2. 2nd owner at 106,000kms There was an under $5000, claim was under the amount where the details had to be given out.
3. never raced the car.
4. Canadian car, bought in Prince George
5. No clutch change, no slip in the clutch. user was super easy on clutches
6. The only issue: wheel bearing that was replaced by subaru under warranty.
7. The paint isnt 100%. Being a northern car for most of its life the paint it a bit worn up front. Few tiny dings from poor parking lot care of other people.
I have a few questions to any impreza owners:
1) when should the clutch most likely need a change?
2) how much would a clutch and fly wheel change cost approx?
3) What size tires does it take? and how much approximately would tires cost?
THANKS MUCH IS APPRECIATED!I need help with purchasing a 2004 Impreza, please answer some questions.?
You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carquotes.sinfree.netI need help with purchasing a 2004 Impreza, please answer some questions.?
have the car checked out by a mechanic well worth the money and ask him the questionsI need help with purchasing a 2004 Impreza, please answer some questions.?
A clutch can last anywhere from 50,000 miles to well over 100,000 miles depending on how it was used. The base clutch change here in the US runs about $700. Tire size on those were 205/55/16 and decent ones in that size can be found here in the US for about 60 to 80 a piece. One hing to note. Fast wheel bearing wear can be caused by very aggressive driving or aftermarket wheels with too low an offset. So I doubt 3 is true. I mean it's the 2nd owner so how do they know?

Changing rear hub bearing/problem with ABS? 2?
I don't know how this thing works (Yahoo Answers..), I want to reply, but how !?
Thanks Phillip for the quick respond.
You think the mechanic did it by visual inspection and turning the wheel or rotor to find out that the problem was with bearing? (it took 陆 hour, they called me that, they found the problem).
So, those screw, I don檛 know is just one or two screws holding the ABS, if it is taken out by drilling, then ABS sensor is free to come out? I am trying to find out the Honda technician is looking at easy out, by replacing them, and charging me C$500 for both ABSs rear wheel, adding $400 for bearings, labour incl. plus taxes.
Do you think, I can trust them, or any other mechanic can do it?
Thanks,
PDChanging rear hub bearing/problem with ABS? 2?
From what I can make out of your problem......1: the mechanic says the rear wheel bearings are bad . (is it just one bearing or both sides?)
2: he wants to change out the ABS sensors to;......( why does he want to change the ABS sensors?)
3: there is no reason to change the ABS sensors just because you are changing wheel bearings ; and if only one bearing is bad why does he want to change out both sides?
I think you should get another shop to check it out and then make a decision at that time .
I don't trust the first guy !Changing rear hub bearing/problem with ABS? 2?
most mechanics can do it, u should ask around to ur friends and family for a good shop. and the prices will definetley be cheaper.

How much play should you get from the short driveshaft on car?
I have a rover 220 SDI,i changed the nearside wheel bearing yesterday but noticed that afterwards there was a lot of play in the shaft, when i had the hub removed i was able to pull the driveshaft at least 2 inches out and back in, should this be normal or is my driveshaft knackered? How much play should you get from the short driveshaft on car?
that is normal, your drive shaft has to be able to change lengths throughout normal driving conditions. How much play should you get from the short driveshaft on car?

How to change 02 f-150 front wheel bearings?
i noticed a kind of humming noise coming from the front of the truck, my gut reaction is its the bearings going out. if i remember correctly its a pretty straight forward process.
1. remove wheel
2. remove caliper
3. remove the bearing cap
4. remove the spindle nut
5. remove rotor and replace bearings
pretty sure thats the sum of it, but do any you need any special tools? its been a while since i've done any bearing work and now i at college at my tool arsenal is basically limited to a 100 or so piece craftsman set.How to change 02 f-150 front wheel bearings?
You'll need a brass punch.
The oil seals %26amp; bearings come out easy enough but use the brass punch to knock out the races. The new bearings will come with new races.
An arbor press is best to press in the new races but you can use the brass punch and carefully tap them in making sure they go in straight and evenly as you gently tap all around them in. Take your time and make sure the races are bottomed out. Pack bearing grease into the bearings before installing them.
Hope this helps. How to change 02 f-150 front wheel bearings?
no special tools is required,a good socket set channel lock players or the right size wrench to remove the spindle nut,tap out the rear bearing cap to remove the rear bearing, you should also replace the bearing race in the router, repack the bearings with a good bearing grease then replace router.make sure you tightened the spindle nut to the right specks, not too tight or loose.also replace a new cotter pin.

How much it will cost?
How much it will cost to change one of the wheel hub bearing with ABS at the front wheel of my 1996 SL saturn?and labor? How much it will cost?
1996: 1.9L, 4 Cylinder.. wheel hub bearing with ABS cost you apprx $95 and the labor cost varies depending on the service and the state you live in hope this helps good luck :)How much it will cost?
The bearing itself should not be too expensive, but I recommend calling around to check several shops and see what they charge per hour of labor. Also, keep track of the time the car is being worked on, some shops will try to charge you book time, which means they look in a book, it tells them the amount of time the job normally takes, then charge you that price, whether or not it was a shorter time. But if it is a longer time, they will charge you for the actual time. This is a common practice, but you don't have to take it, time them as the work, you already know their rate per hour for labor, and don't let them charge you more than the time they worked. How much it will cost?
In response to your question. There is a published manual with the alloted time, parts prices may vary depending on shop mark up and quality. If you call around they should be able to give you definite quotes.
In response to Fank T. I don't understand why so many people on this site try to slap maechanics around. I am an HONEST shop owner and mechanic. Book time is book time and that is what you charge the customer. If I do it faster, wich is usually, that is to my benefit. It is because I know what I am doing, and I haave spent the money on the proper tools to do the job correctly. If it takes me longer, that is my problem. Customer still gets charged book time. If I can't make money, then I need to find a new career.
All of the shop owners I know operate like this. I wouldn't associate with one that didn't. I understand you can get robbed very easily. But find someone your comfortable with and you should be ok. Most of us are just trying to make an HONEST dollar.

I put a new front wheel bearing on my car, now i'm getting 1/2 the MPG i was. Could i have tightened it too mu?
Nothing else changed on the car. as soon as i was done with the bearing, the car went from getting almost 300 miles a tank to 200. So from 30mpg to 20mpg. I'm thinking it's gotta be the problem. But i don't know how this could be. You can't tighten a bearing too much being that it's pressed in, it's a fixed piece. I'm wondering if it's a bum bearing. am i wrong?I put a new front wheel bearing on my car, now i%26039;m getting 1/2 the MPG i was. Could i have tightened it too mu?
Anything is possible but not this...........

what kind of car. if it,s the kind of bearing that you adjust then it,s possible that you could have gotten it too tight. if it is then you will burn the bearing up. if the bearing is pressed into the hub then it,s factory pressed.I put a new front wheel bearing on my car, now i%26039;m getting 1/2 the MPG i was. No a wheel bearing will not cause a decrease in mileage. You have another problem somewhere under the hood. How long since you have had a tune-up.I put a new front wheel bearing on my car, now i%26039;m getting 1/2 the MPG i was. Could i have tightened it too mu?

Wheel bearing repair messing up brakes?
Hi. I have an 03 Oldsmobile Alero. Yesterday at the local garage I had my front drivers side wheel bearing replaced. Yesterday when I was driving the couple of miles home I noticed something was different. It was steering great but the breaks seemed %26quot;loose%26quot;. I pressed them and they didnt seem as %26quot;tight%26quot; as usual. I drove it about twenty miles today and the breaks are just completely jacked up. They were barely even catchin, they were 10 times more delayed. Just wondering...what could have messed them up.. the pads were recently changed and the rouders rotated..so just wondering what could the mechanic have done to mess things up. and how much would parts cost. thank you.Wheel bearing repair messing up brakes?
when the mechanic took the front apart to replace the bearing he would have had to remove the brake calipers from the rotors. Most of the time they don't have to be taken off completely but can be laid aside. If it was completely removed he may not have bled the brakes after reinstalling. If not taken off he may have damaged the brake line when setting it aside. If the brakes are soft and getting worse I would assume there is air in the system. Either take it back and demand it be fixed (free) or take it to another mechanic to have the brake system checked.Wheel bearing repair messing up brakes?
You need to have it looked at immediately. The brakes could go completely out. It sounds like they done something wrong when they had it apart.Wheel bearing repair messing up brakes?
If it wasn't doing it prior, get it back to the shop and tell them what's up. Parts should cost nothing, neither should labor.Wheel bearing repair messing up brakes?

Wheel bearing? 2000 Impala?
So, my car has been vibrating really badly when I turn my steering wheel to the left whenever I'm driving around a curve and it does it whenever I'm speeding up too. I took it to the dealership today to get my oil changed and they said my passenger side outer tie rod was bad and so was my driver sider hub bearing. I replaced the tie rod today (the outer one) and the clicking noise I hear when I turn my wheel has decreased but not completely gone and it still vibrates whenever I turn. How badly is my wheel bearing wore out? How long will it last? I'm supposed to get it done Thurs but I'm scared it's something more than the wheel bearing. Help!Wheel bearing? 2000 Impala?
Ok, first off I'd be a bit skeptical about a wheel bearing for 60 bucks. The wheel bearing for your car is a whole hub assembly, so unless they are going to press the bearing out and press in a new one (about an hour labor with a hydraulic press so $20 to put it on seems cheap now) that sounds like a cheap assembly. Depending on the braking systems of your car (4 wheel ABS or 2 wheel ABS) the hubs cost about $168 from NAPA. As far as the problems is concerned, if the problem was with the drivers side bearing then you would notice it turning to the right; all the weight shifts to the opposite side when turning. Like others to answer, I would have them check the tulip (CV) joints in the CV shaft on the passengers side. As far as safety is concerned, if the bearing does seize up while you are driving that can cause the car to pull in the direction of the seizure so if you are not ready for it you can swerve pretty bad in that direction. I've seen bad bearing last for 2 days after making noise and I've seen them last for 6 months...it's really a crap shoot.Wheel bearing? 2000 Impala?
Sounds more like CV joints to me.Wheel bearing? 2000 Impala?
could be a CV joint..if you can't afford a car, don't drive one...everything needs maintenance.Wheel bearing? 2000 Impala?
Why didn't you have them do the bearing while you were there? Then you would know.Wheel bearing? 2000 Impala?
This happened to my 2003 Impala last year. I drove on it for maybe two days after I noticed the vibrating. grinding whenever I sped up or turned and my dad told me that I shouldn't have so I would guess you should do it pretty quick, I think it was like $110. My car mainly did it when I was going fast.Wheel bearing? 2000 Impala?
It's hard to say...the ball bearings in these American cars suck...my friend has a Cavalier and has had bearings go bad in two different front wheels. The first time he drove around in it like that for a month or two, lol, then it got real bad (loud). So it can last a while but it depends on how bad it is, the position, everything. Let it go too long and you will really **** it up so just be careful, drive it slow, and you should def last til Thursday. Just make sure you get it taken care of then and don't delay it further.Wheel bearing? 2000 Impala?

Dear Paseo-
You are going to be in for a big suprise. That is not an easy job.
Those bearings are pressed into the hub assembly, and will require you to completely reove the hubs from the car. This is going to include removal of the brake calipers, CV shafts, Struts, (disconnected from the hub at the top), the ball joint removed from the bottom. And the steering end links to your Rack and Pinion.
Now that is not the interesting part. You then get to reinstall all of that, then head down to an alignment shop and have your wheels re-aligned.
The new bearings are not super expensive, but they will require being pressed into the hub after the old ones are removed. Its not the parts that are the expensive part, its the labor, plus the alignment.
A word of caution. Remember the front suspension is under spring tension, so if you don't have the proper strut compressor, things are going to get a little exciting.
I would recommend that you let a shop that is properly equipped deal with this job. Should one of those springs cut loose while you are working under there, you might have a little extra Iron in your diet you weren't counting on.

I have a close friend who lost his finger to such an accident, and I had to rush him to the ER. Needless to say, after that event, I let the shops handle that work.
I hope I helped you out!

Quite a straight forward job and if you are equipped with power tools should be over by 2 hours.
Cost about $200 to change both bearings and include replacement charge.
Suggest get it replace by the workshop. Can anyone tell me how to change my front wheel bearings for my 93 toyota paseo?detailed if poss.?

Your biggest obstacle is going to be the shop press. You are not going to have one and it would cost you more than the value of your car to get one.
You will need a 30 mm socket and appropriate drive tool to remove the axle nut, a 17 mm socket to remove the brake caliper assy from the steering knuckle, also the strut bolts that hold it to the knuckle are the same size, dikes to pull the cotter pin from the tie rod fastener. After the tie rod fastener is off this is where the hammer comes in. A few sharp blows to the part of the knuckle where the tie rod goes into will pop the tie rod out. Be careful to not hit the tie rod end threads or else you are going for a new one. Then 3 bolts hold the lower control arm to the knuckle 14 or 17 mm. Take that out and you are almost there.
This is the part where you may want to go to a shop before hand and ask them if they would install the bearings for you. If you can find a taker, you are in business. They will put your bearings in for you and all you will have to do is re-assemble the thing.
You will not be able to remove the bearings on your own. They are easily pressed in and out, so let the shop do this unless you know someone who has access to a press and could do you a favor. There is a seal kit you will need for each bearing that are a little difficult to install with out the proper tools and a seal driver kit can set you back some dough.
If you want to have a shop do it, should be in the ballpark of 3.5-4 labor hours and about 100-120 bucks for parts to do both sides.
There is also the issue of the actual hub being worn which is a possibility. The hub is actually the part that has your wheel studs on it. If the bearings are excessively worn you may need to replace one or both of these. These will run you about 100 dollars each new if needed. Can anyone tell me how to change my front wheel bearings for my 93 toyota paseo?detailed if poss.?
all the people are right ,you need a shop with a press to do it. I usually strip it down and take it to the shop to let them press it and they usually only charge about 25 to do it. Front wheel drive bearings are just to hard to get out without a press.
